This weekend reminded me of one of those NY Times 36 hour travel articles. Have
you ever read those? Here is an example: 36 Hours in Porto, Portugal.
Friday
1. ALEX AND LET ARRIVE - ...and they come bearing good news.
A date and place for the wedding has been set!
2. PIZZA TIME - 400+ beers to choose from, roasted
mushroom pizza and close by = happiness at Rustico.
3. GAMES - Would not be a complete
trip without Bohnanza ("the bean game") and Let is
currently the reigning champion.
Saturday
4. WEDDING DRESSES - Oh my goodness, so fun. A great (and very productive)
morning at Hitched in Georgetown . Imagine Say Yes to the Dress, but even more awesome. Two
dresses won our hearts over.
5. LUNCH - Clyde's never let's you down and after shopping, you need your
nourishment. Bagel and lox for me.
6. ZOO - So cold. Animals that could withstand the
weather and therefore the ones we could see: zebras, "little mammals"
(ie: prairie dog's and such), horses (that looked like donkeys),
lions, monkeys (including gorillas who were eating their own throw-up?!?!) tigers and birds.
7. CHINATOWN - Holiday market + friend Kate's
amazing apartment and view of the city, pre-dinner. Walked ALL day, muy cold, feet turned into popsicles.
7 p.m.
8. TOP CHEF - We meet again Graffiato. You do not cease to
impress. Everything was fantastic. Just to name a few items that were consumed
with great pleasure: rabbit lasagna, roasted potato gnocchi with black
truffle, flat-breads with pepperoni sauce (uff!!!) and beignets with a pumpkin/caramel sauce (double
uff!!!)
Sunday
10. FOOTBALL - Redskins (Alex & Let)
vs. Patriots (Matt & Sofia). The couples split. Patriots win, but it came
down to the wire. No hard feelings (that I know of...) Hot chocolate saved the
day.
11. PENTAGON ROW - Quick post-game dinner, pre-airport
drop off. Warm food = exactly what the doctor ordered.
