...voice like butter!

Happy Thirsty Thursday! I'm looking forward to sharing a little more about this crazy trip with you. Too bad we are now far, far away from the Gulf of Mexico. All we have are memories and our (hopefully) sun kissed skin.

Upon reading the list of trip prizes, the item that caught our attention the most was the shrimp boil and live performance by Geoff McBride, because:

a) we love shrimp!
b) we had watched all of season 2 of The Voice and actually knew who Geoff was (one of his clips if you are interested - Higher Ground)

Once again, none of us knew exactly what to expect. All we knew was that the musical soiree would take place at our humble abode and that the caterers would be arriving at 4:30pm. I thought they would be using the kitchen, so I was going to strategically read on a couch nearby, to see how they made everything, but instead, I fell asleep (shocking, I know) and awoke to the food set-up outside, on the lower patio and the music equipment on the upper one (ahem, yes, patios here, there and everywhere - not pretentious sounding at all).

Around 6:30pm, Ashley's family arrived, as well as Geoff and his posse (wife + music partner Joey and his wife), the organizers of the contest, two photographers and their respective wives. All in all, we were about 20 people. The food consisted of shrimp of course, potatoes, sausages, corn on the cob, pickles and watermelon. Yum!

Once our tummies were full, it was time for some music. We expected Geoff to play two or three songs, but instead he played about ten! Ashley's mom accurately pointed out that he had "voice like butter". Favorite song he played: At Last (Etta James). Above all, he and his wife were extremely friendly, approachable and fun. Really nice people. The kids would run into his arms and he would pick them up, play with them and let them sit in his lap as he sang. In such an intimate setting, the evening had the potential of being a bit awkward, but it was far from it. Everyone was dancing, schmoozing, overindulging in tall glasses of whipped cream vodka and the party surprisingly lasted a couple hours. There were a few other moments worth mentioning, but who knows what tabloid might catch wind of my blog post, so we'll have to save those for our next face-to-face conversation ;)

Around 10pm, Geoff mentioned that the caterers had put aside a plate for him. Rilind and I looked at each other and quickly realized that this particular plate had actually ceased to exist. We thought it was leftovers, so during the intermission (can I please call it that?!) we had slowly but surely, picked it over and didn't even leave a measly pickle for the only person in the house, who has actually met Cee-Lo (AND his cat)! Luckily, he was beyond amused and we made up for it with pound cake. By the way, am I the only person who didn't know that pound cake is traditionally made with a pound of flour, butter, eggs and sugar in it?!? Lord, no wonder it's so good!

Want a piece?

How did the aforementioned evening end? "One card" aka Screw Your Neighbor, such a fun and simple game (winner: Leslie).

May your afternoon be full of gambling productivity! If it's not, here's an article to pass time: The pros and cons of living with your significant other
